Young Western Screech Owl fledgling

Image
Last evening, just at dark, as I watched some bats I heard some vocalizations in the trees that seemed familiar. Soon I saw 2 'figures' (just blurred things flying from a tree). I got out my spotlight and found the source of the continuing vocalizations--a young Western Screech Owl. Though I tried to get pics of the owl lit by my strong spotlight, these were not any good so returned this morning and refound this owl, getting these two pics I digi-scoped through my spotting scope by hand-holding my Canon S90 point and shoot camera over the lens. More to follow. SeEtta

SnowyOwl: more digiscoped pics

Image
Though many photographers choose to show only the frontal view of birds, I think that backshots are worthwhile and so I often include them on this blog. These are both the same pic with the bottom being an enlargement that shows the tail feathers and one of it's toenails a little better. I have failed to mention so fare that this is an immature owl. BARE-THROATED TIGER-HERON: Digiscoped pics

Image
Today the BARE-THROATED TIGER-HERON provided just awesome views as it foraged for more than an hour at fairly close distance at Bentsen-Rio Grande State Park in Texas. This was another daytime viewing with very good light. I just purchased a camera to try digiscoping again (when I tried over a year ago it just didn't work out) and these are my first attempts at using it for digiscoping. I used two different spotting scopes but the pics came out pretty good. I also did some videoscoping but the files are very large and it is taking hours to upload. I am hoping the first video file will be up and processed for viewing on this blog tomorrow. SeEtta
